Show You Care with Sterling Silver Jewelry

When you have to buy a gift for someone that seems to have everything, in addition to being stumped for ideas, the pocketbook is limited in the amount of spending budgeted for the purchase. With that panicked feeling of being limited in the options for a great gift in a short amount of time, what is a person to do? One option is to choose silver jewelry. Having a brilliant shining appearance and durability for daily use, sterling silver jewelry is a perfect gift idea, pleasing anyone that receives it. The silver jewelry is made of a strong metal that is a combination of silver and a small amount of copper for strength. Being highly polished, it glimmers and shines, highlighting any gemstones that are added in the design.

Sterling silver jewelry is available in premade stock designs in many variations and items, such as necklaces, rings, and watches. Adding different gemstones in the design of the silver jewelry can represent a person’s birth month with the type of gem, or simply be a great accessory to the wardrobe. Sterling silver jewelry, in addition to being less expensive than gold items, is stronger in nature, allowing it to be worn every day as a reminder of your thoughtfulness in the gift.

Silver jewelry can also be personalized with engravings that are meaningful, or designs that have personal meaning to the gift receiver. For example, ordering hand-made sterling silver jewelry in a specific shape can represent personal hobbies, meaningful events or inspirational symbols that are sure to please and show the care you put into your gift choice. Silver jewelry is highly versatile in this way, allowing intricate designs, the addition of gemstones and personalization to make the gift special. The hand-made designs also demonstrate artisanship and lends to the personal thought of the gift.

Other ideas for sterling silver jewelry gifts are charms or medals that represent milestones in the receiver’s life, such as weddings, graduations or personal improvement achievements. At other times, the silver jewelry can simply represent love and friendship or comfort for someone in a time of need. There does not have to be a big occasion to offer sterling silver jewelry as a gift, since it is more affordable than some other gift options. With the unlimited possibilities in the designs and uses of silver jewelry, gift giving has become much easier in choice and more affordable than it used to be.

Kim Kardashian's Engagement Ring Details!

Kim Kardashian's engagement ring is the perfect fit for the uber-reality starlet's personal style. It's bold. It's beautiful. And (good gracious) is it BIG!

New Jersey Nets forward Kris Humphries popped the question after dating Kim for only 6 months with a whopping 20.5-carat Lorraine Schwartz stunner, People reports!  (Schwartz is a longtime friend of the Kardashian clan and is known for her 'bigger means better' bling on all the important red carpet events.)

“It’s the most beautiful thing I have ever seen,” Kardashian told People. “It’s perfect.”

And TMZ is reporting the stone is valued at over $2 million smackers! (someone get me a chair....)

The 16.5-carat emerald-cut center stone is flanked by a pair of 2-carat trapezoids, for a total weight of 20.5 carats! Humphries even managed to work with Schwartz on the design behind Kim's back.

“[Lorraine] always listened to what I would want and the shapes I love. I had said I loved an emerald cut and they were scheming and plotting for a while,” she explained.

No wedding date is set yet, and while Humphries isn't keen on a big celebration he joked with Kim's momager, Kris Jenner, that he'd be "fine if there were mini-horses there."

Careful what you wish for,  sport...

Meet Bubbles

Meet Bubbles the baby groundhog. Bubbles is an orphan. Her (at least her rehabilitator thinks she's a her) mother was hit by a car and she was picked up by a nice lady and turned over to my friend. I never thought I liked groundhogs. They've burrowed underneath my pump house and created a big mess with their excavations. But this little critter is so friendly and just loves to cuddle. My dogs, as usual, were fascinated by this little thing. I once read that dogs can identify an infant of any species by their smell due to differences in blood chemistry. I don't know if that's true but they're always very gentle with these babies.

Emerald Tiara Smashes Auction Record

LOWER JAW DROP ALERT! Everything's coming up emeralds these days - from the couture at the Cannes Film Festival to fashion frenzy at The Met Gala.

So it comes as no surprise that one heckofa crown jewel - an emerald and diamond tiara - sold at Sotheby's Geneva auction last week for a price-busting $12.76 million - the highest price ever achieved for an emerald jewel.

Model, Bianca Balti, wears emerald jewelry at the Cannes Film Festival
"It is needless to say a world record price at auction for a tiara," said David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby's Europe and Middle East jewelry department.

The bauble originally belonged to German prince Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck, who commissioned it for his second wife Katharina around 1900.  (With a name like that, you better have a budget for bling. Yikes.)

An anonymous bidder from North America is the lucky owner of the royal green gem. Oprah's got some down time coming her way. Maybe she wanted a crown to go with her Queen of Daytime moniker?

But who needs Oprah (sorry, Gayle) when you've got me to bring you buckets of bling on a budget, right? To that end, I give you one of my favorite emerald styles on the NEW Jewelry.com. I like it because it could be a great fashion piece - OR - an alternative bridal look.

And at just over $200 for real emeralds and 1/4ct of diamond ice? Well, let's just say you don't have to marry a prince to bring one home for your own collection.

Advantages of Silver Jewelry

If you look around keenly you will notice that silver jewelry is becoming more popular by the day. You do not need to wonder why this is so, because silver jewelry has a lot of advantages. Read on, as below are some of these advantages.

One reason why silver jewelry is becoming popular is because of its versatility in matching with all skin tones and hair colors, so if you are have blond, black or brunette hair, you can wear silver jewelry. Whatever your style - whether casual or elegant - silver jewelry has no boundaries, as men, women and kids will all like it. As you know, there is no better metal than silver when it comes to reflecting light, so when worn near the face it throws a glossy reflection on your face and brightens your eyes.

Another reason is the health benefit of silver jewelry. It has been proved scientifically that silver jewelry provides a needed element to the body. Silver has highly important components for balancing some elements in our body. It keeps the blood vessels elastic and is important for bone and skin formation and healing. It is said to be absorbed through the skin. There you are - if you thought silver jewelry was only about fashion, think again.

The low cost of silver jewelry is also an advantage. Although silver is leading in a lot of cases when you look at market shares, it still remains cheaper than gold. Considering these hard economical times, why would you buy a product - for example gold - when you can buy two items of jewelry in silver for the same price.

Another advantage of silver jewelry is that it shines even against white. Take the example that you are looking for jewelry for your wedding and you would prefer something that will shine and at least be different from your white wedding gown. Yellow may not be able to bring that shine, but silver jewelry will.

There are a lot of silver products on the market, from silver bracelets to silver earrings, beads and so on. They are very beautiful and inexpensive due to the fact that silver is not a precious metal but, remember, it is very precious to our body in terms of health.

Even though silver, like many metals, tarnishes with time, you can still keep it shiny if you buy sterling silver jewelry and take good care of it, especially by cleaning it with 100% cotton cloths and storing it separately, so that the pieces do not rub against each other.

Angelina Jolie's Diamond Disappointment

The most anticipated star to walk the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival this year, hands down, was Angelina Jolie. Always elegant, always gorgeous - and often with nary a jewel to the naked eye - this A-lister has it well within her power to make every jewelry gawker and diamond diva quiver in our boots with a jaw-dropping jewelry choice (Exhibit A: The Oscar emeralds).

However.

She ususally just doesn't go there. And Monday night was no exception. Her chocolate Atelier Versace gown was pure perfection - but instead of a creative couture jewelry choice from festival sponsor, Chopard, for example, she went with the tried and true stud (and I'm not talking about Brad).

Cannes Film Festival Jewelry Update

Aishwarya Rai in Chopard

Good news, jewelry hounds! More crazy carats were spotted on the Croisette at the 64th Annual CannesFilm Festival! We're talking Sarah Jessica Parker, Penelope Cruz, Uma Thurman - even Jane Fonda!

Sarah Jessica Parker in Fred Leighton

Chopard continues to sparkle on all the big names - and while I've seen Ms. Fonda's Chopard 160-carat (!) sapphire stunner before on their Co-President, Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele back in 2009 -  a bauble like that never really gets old, right?

Jane Fonda in Chopard

Uma brought out another pair of Chopard chandeliers for the Pirates of the Caribbean premiere, but IMHO - they're not nearly as jaw-dropping as her opening night emeralds).

Uma Thurman in Chopard

But color was definitely a continuing trend as A-lister Penelope Cruz rocked these rubellite earrings (also by Chopard) for her Pirates of the Caribbean red carpet waltz.

Tonight, though, is a big night. Why? Brangelina is making a red carpet appearance for Brad's film, Tree of Life. And while Ms. Jolie is usually a "diamonds on the down low" kindof jewelry celeb, I'm hoping just this ONCE - she rocks out with a statement piece. A jewelry hound can dream....

Stay tuned! In the meantime, here are some more highlights:

Silver Jewelries for your Significant Other

If you are having a hard time thinking of an idea on what present you will give to someone. Here is an idea that you will not regret.

Gold accessories, necklace, bracelets, and earrings, why buy these luxurious things when you can settle for a cheaper yet elegant looking accessory. Silver jewelries decorated with precious stones, like diamonds, sapphires and pearls is what I am telling you. Yes, perhaps it will immediately give you a thought of high-cost and high maintenance items. But no, you are definitely wrong. Silver jewelry is not as expensive as what you think. There is a variety of silver jewelry that you can afford.

Silver jewelries are the best idea that one could give as a gift. It will not only show elegance but would also depict different meanings depending on the designs of the jewelry you have chosen to give as a present.

If you would choose sterling silver jewelry to your significant other, specifically to your boyfriend or husband, an engravable dog tag or engravable ID bracelet is best. With this item, you could personalize your gift with both your names, his name only, or a short message you want to tell him. Through this, you are putting words in an item that represents your relationship which you believe it will last for a lifetime. Prices of these items may range from 15$ to 30$.

However, if you are a guy, a ring is best for your girlfriend because it represents special bond between the both of you. But do not plan of an over sumptuous gift like the cadence prince cut ring. It will really cost you a lot. A simple decorated ring would be enough to make your girlfriend smile and probably say I do. Most women do not want over ornamented items. Fancy rings embellished with little gem stones could be one gift that your girlfriend will admire.

If you think your girlfriend does not want a ring, try a brooch or silver locket. There are a variety of brooch designs that could perfectly fit your girlfriend’s personality and taste. There are brooch designed with flowers, animals, and even abstract designs. So if your girlfriend is fond of butterflies just what most women want, why not buy her a butterfly patterned brooch. Conversely, if you want a silver locket as a gift, it will be best if you put your best couple picture in it. Your girlfriend will surely be pleased if you will give this as a present.

Week 19-Snidely Whiplash Owl Pendant

The theme for this week is "Round and round". This is something I was playing around with the other day and it comes closest to fitting the theme with it’s round belly and round eyes. It’s an inexpensive glass cabochon that I wrapped with square copper wire. Then I wired a piece of brass wire under his body to represent a branch and some feet. Where I got stumped was trying to give him a beak and some cheeks to close the gap between his body and eyeballs. I’m not happy with that part. I think he looks more diabolical than whimsical-hence the name Snidely Whiplash. LOL If anyone has a better solution, email me a sketch!

Emeralds Explode at Cannes!

Jewelry at the Cannes Film Festival is a 'go big or go home' explosion of some of the world's most expensive jewels and gems. Why? Because high-end jewelry house (and my personal fave), Chopard, is the sponsor, and that means the red carpet waltz is all about the 'BA-ling'.

While diamonds are always dripping from the likes of Hollywood celebs, models and various other socialite types - the opening of the 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival will forever be known as "The Year of the Emerald".

First, there's Uma Thurman. A festival juror this year, the A-lister dazzled in a stunning white Versace strapless gown and jaw-dropping Chopard emerald jewels (the chandelier earrings alone are 54 cts(!) set in 18 K white gold).

Not to be outdone is model, Bianca Balti, whose emerald statement necklace, cocktail ring and dangle earrings almost defy description. My jaw is still scraping the floor.  Credit is assumed to belong to her red carpet companion, Fawaz Gruosi, who is one of the most sought after jewelry and watch designers working today (he owns Geneva-based de Grisogono) .

Salma Hayek makes every Cannes red carpet a spectator sport - and this year she wowed in head-to-toe Gucci. Win!

Creative couture is the hallmark of Chopard, and their Co-President Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele brought out their big-time bling in what appear to be peacock dangle earrings and a matching wrap-around cuff from their Animal World Collection.

Here's a smattering of some of the other incredible jewelry looks I spotted on opening night, where Woody Allen's latest, Midnight in Paris, screened. But this is just the beginning. Stay with me and Jewelry.com for more crazy carat coverage from Cannes as the festival continues!
